Dental Hygiene
Hygienist visits are a vital element of any dental care plan
In line with our wellness-centred approach to dentistry, we recommend booking a session with our dedicated dental hygienist in Chester on a regular basis.
We’re proud to offer Airflow® Guided Biofilm Therapy. This cutting-edge hygiene treatment uses a combination of air, warm water, and fine powder to gently yet effectively remove plaque, stains, and bacteria, even in hard-to-reach areas, without the discomfort of traditional scaling. It’s ideal for anyone with sensitive teeth or seeking a more thorough, comfortable clean. As one of the only practices in Chester providing Airflow, we’re committed to delivering exceptional hygiene care that truly sets us apart.
Hygienists play an essential part in keeping your mouth free from tooth decay, gum disease, and wider dental problems–all of which we know can have a detrimental impact on your overall health.
Education and hygiene combined for lasting oral health
Education is a vital aspect of these visits, too. As well as carrying out a deep clean, our hygienist will set aside time during your appointment to explain the importance of good cleaning techniques and suggest any tools or products that will help you achieve a fresher mouth in the months to come. You’ll have the opportunity to ask us as many questions as you like, and you’ll leave our dental clinic feeling confident in your knowledge and empowered to put all your new skills into practice.
Arrange your next visit to our dental hygienist.
Dental hygiene FAQs
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DENTAL HYGIENIST AND A DENTIST?
A dental hygienist specialises in cleaning teeth and preventing oral diseases, while a dentist diagnoses and treats dental issues, such as cavities, gum disease, and structural problems. Both these dental professionals work together to ensure your oral health, and both are essential to a well-rounded dental care programme.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I SEE A DENTAL HYGIENIST?
We recommend visiting our dental hygienist in Chester every six months for a routine cleaning. However, if you have gum disease, heavy plaque buildup, or other oral health concerns, we usually suggest booking in every 3 months or so. We will be able to advise further once we have assessed your oral health and developed your personalised treatment plan.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I SKIP THESE VISITS?
Skipping dental cleanings can lead to plaque and tartar buildup, increasing the risk of cavities, gum disease, and even tooth loss. Regular cleanings help maintain both oral and overall health, in line with the principles of wellness dentistry, which we follow closely here at Curzon Park Dental.
DOES DENTAL CLEANING HURT?
Dental cleanings are generally not painful. You may feel some mild discomfort if you have sensitive gums or excessive tartar buildup, but you can rest assured our hygienists are trained to make the experience as comfortable as possible and will prioritise your wellbeing during every appointment.
CAN A DENTAL HYGIENIST DETECT CAVITIES OR GUM DISEASE?
Yes, our dental hygienists are trained to recognise early signs of cavities, gum disease, and other oral health problems. While they don’t perform treatments, they will alert the dentist to any issues that may require attention, so you can get the issue fixed and/or put any preventative measures right in place right away.
CAN A DENTAL HYGIENIST HELP WHITEN MY TEETH?
Our hygienists don’t perform whitening procedures, but they can remove surface stains during a cleaning and recommend our professional whitening options if you’re interested in enhancing your smile further.
