CAN WHITENING REMOVE ALL STAINS FROM MY TEETH?
Teeth whitening is effective for most surface (extrinsic) stains caused by food, drinks, and smoking. It might not fully address the deep (intrinsic) stains that can be caused by medications, trauma, or ageing. In these cases, other cosmetic options like veneers or bonding might be more appropriate. Our dentists will be able to advise you further during your initial consultation.
HOW DOES THE ENLIGHTEN TEETH WHITENING SYSTEM WORK?
Here’s what you can expect from the process:
- One of our cosmetic dentists will carry out an assessment of your oral health to determine whether you’re a good candidate for Enlighten. During your first consultation, they will also take precise digital scans of your teeth so custom-fitted whitening trays can be created by the manufacturer.
- You’ll be given a course of carbamide peroxide gel, which needs to be inserted into the trays and applied to the teeth overnight for 14 consecutive nights. We’ll also supply you with a desensitising gel, which you can use every morning after removing the trays to get rid of any discomfort.
- During the third week of your treatment, you’ll switch to peroxide gel and will only need to wear your trays for one hour a day.
- Once you’ve completed your course, we’ll invite you back into our practice for a final assessment and provide you with lots of advice on how to look after your new smile in the coming months and years.
DO I NEED TO AVOID CERTAIN FOODS AND DRINKS DURING MY TEETH WHITENING TREATMENT?
Unlike other systems, Enlighten doesn’t require you to avoid particular foods or drinks in between applications. However, we would always recommend limiting your intake of tea, coffee, red wine, and other teeth-staining substances, including tobacco.
HOW LONG DO TEETH WHITENING RESULTS LAST?
This will depend on your lifestyle habits and how well you look after your teeth! Professional whitening can last from 6 months to 2 years, or even longer, with proper care.
