Tooth repair FAQs
CAN A CHIPPED TOOTH BE FIXED?
Yes, a chipped tooth can usually be repaired with dental bonding, veneers, or crowns, depending on the size and location of the chip. Bonding is often used for minor chips, while a crown may be necessary for larger or structurally weakened teeth.
IS REPAIRING A CRACKED TOOTH ALWAYS POSSIBLE?
Most cracked teeth can be repaired using crowns or bonding, but the treatment we choose for you will depend on the severity and location of the crack. In some cases, if the crack extends below the gum line or into the tooth root, extraction may be necessary. Early intervention improves the chances of saving the tooth.
WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS FOR REPAIRING WORN-DOWN TEETH?
Worn-down teeth can be repaired with bonding, crowns, or veneers, depending on the extent of wear. These treatments will restore the tooth’s natural shape and protect it from further damage. We also recommend nightguards to prevent damage caused by grinding (bruxism).
WILL REPAIRING MY TOOTH HURT?
Most tooth repair procedures, like bonding, fillings, or crowns, are minimally invasive and cause little to no discomfort. Our dentists will use local anaesthesia when necessary to ensure you remain comfortable throughout the process. Post-procedure sensitivity, if any, is usually mild and temporary.
HOW LONG DO TOOTH REPAIRS LAST?
The lifespan of your tooth repair will depend on the restorative method we have used, and how well it’s cared for. Bonding typically lasts for between 5 and 10 years; crowns or veneers have an expected lifespan of 10 to 15 years; and straightforward fillings will perform at their best for between 7 and 15 years, as long as you practice good oral hygiene, avoid hard foods, and attend regular dental visits.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF MY TOOTH IS KNOCKED OUT?
If a tooth is knocked out, handle it by the crown (not the root) and rinse it gently with water if dirty. Try to place it back in the socket if possible or store it in milk or saliva. Book an emergency appointment with one of our dentists right away, as taking action quickly increases the likelihood that we’ll be able to reattach the tooth successfully.
